Knit Loud. Knit Often.

Historic Patterns...
...they are usually written in terms that the modern knitter cannot read easily. Mostly because the terms, brands of yarn and uses have changed over time.
Depending on the time period, those who made the items we see, may or may not have even written out the pattern.
They just knew how to make it, usually out of sheer repetition. Learning to knit was a part of school instruction, and part of everyday life. If everyone around you was knitting, chances are that you were knitting along as well, sooner rather than later.
This project is to provide patterns in modern terms and produce an item based on historic knit items.
Our research has taken us mostly to the 18th and early 19th centuries for knit items that still exist, and can be proven as to the time frame.
But there are plenty of projects to tackle from WW1 as well.
We look at museums, newpapers, books to find references as we write the patterns.
So far, our pattern line includes:
* stockings
* mittens
* doll
* Liberty cap
* worsted cap
* sleeping cap
Other knit things:
cabbage nets,
petticoats,
1/2 mitts,
shooting mitts
leg/arm warmers
bags, pouches, purses
Whether you are a re-enactor, or someone who just enjoys knitting historically based knit things... We hope that you will enjoy our patterns.
